Preparing Induction and Orientation Programmes

* Learn how to produce induction programmes that give new staff the right information

Course title: Preparing Induction and Orientation Programmes   
Duration: In-house, according to your requirements and the availability of your people. As a public course, 4 days.

Objectives:

  • Ensure that induction programmes in your company are informative and motivating, and send the right message to new staff
  • Clarify the purposes of induction and orientation programmes
  • Prepare an induction/orientation programme for new staff in your company or Division/Department
  • Plan an induction process, consisting of visits to site and offices, meetings and information sessions
  • Identify the information that new staff members need to know and prepare a "welcome pack" for them
  • Identify challenges to conducting your induction programme, and find ways to overcome them
  • Work with others in a team to prepare induction processes and materials
  • Plan the project: set deadlines, resource requirements and other components of your induction programme plan; and complete it successfully

In-course activities:

  • Prepare an induction plan for new staff in their companies
  • Outline the materials they will need, and start designing them
  • Identify potential set-backs and challenges, and find ways to overcome them
Training Skills for OJT Instructors and Facilitators

* Learn how to plan, organise, and deliver OJT programmes successfully

Course title: Training Skills for OJT Instructors and Facilitators   
Duration: In-house, according to your requirements and the availability of your people. As a public course, 4 days .

Objectives:

  • Prepare and conduct successful OJT programmes
  • Explain nature and challenges of OJT, and the principles of structured OJT learning
  • Identify programme components - objectives, tasks, feedback, assessments, tracking progress, and evaluating the programme
  • Plan OJT tasks, briefings and instructional sessions and work with other Departments and Units to schedule learning tasks, assessments and instruction
  • Conduct needs assessments and prepare basic learner profiles
  • Prepare schedules, task sheets and assessments
  • Assess OJT trainees and developees fairly and accurately by choosing suitable assessment criteria and tasks
  • Overcome the challenges to OJT, such as time, logistics and learner motivation
  • Evaluate OJT programmes for success and plan changes and improvements to programmes, tasks and assessments

In-course activities:

  • Develop programme plans to use at work
  • Use tools for assessing learners' needs, planning sessions and assessments
  • Deliver practice briefings and task instructions
  • Prepare planning templates to use at work
  • Identify important OJT challenges where they work, and ways to overcome them
Training Skills (Training the Trainers)

* Learn a systems approach to planning, implementing, and evaluating training

Course title: Training Skills (Training the Trainers)   
Duration: In-house, according to your requirements and the availability of your people. As a public course, 5 days.

Objectives:

  • Apply the systems approach to training (ISD), including training needs analysis, development, delivery, assessment and evaluation
  • Prepare learner profiles
  • Conduct a training needs analysis to highlight current performance gaps and learning needs
  • Plan terminal and enabling objectives based on training needs and learner profiles
  • List learning and knowledge objects
  • Develop training/learning materials for sessions and courses
  • Plan a training session (lesson)
  • Use interactive, communicative training methods
  • Conduct a learner assessment and self-evaluation after conducting a course

In-course activities:

  • Practice preparing learner profiles and training objectives
  • Deliver two short lessons (videotaped) with evaluation from the instructor
  • Practice writing training plans to use at work
  • Identify obstacles to successful learning and training where they work, and plan ways to overcome them
Instructional Skills (Training the Trainers)

* Learn how to plan and teach successful training sessions

Course title: Instructional Skills (Training the Trainers)   
Duration: In-house, according to your requirements and the availability of your people. As a public course, 5 days

Objectives:

  • Plan and deliver training sessions using interactive instruction, learner-centered tasks and accurate assessment methods
  • Use a learner profile to decide the most suitable way to present information
  • Plan training sessions to maximise time and resources
  • List learning and knowledge objects and write learning outcomes from them
  • Design training activities to reinforce topics and enable learners to practice
  • Teach according to plan, ensuring comprehension and performance
  • Identify learners with specific needs and use remedial instruction to help them
  • Assess learners' knowledge fairly and accurately
  • Evaluate your own training skills, and plan for improvement

In-course activities:

  • Practice preparing learner profiles and training objectives
  • Deliver two short lessons (videotaped) with evaluation from the instructor
  • Practice using a lesson plan template
Evaluating Training Providers

* Learn how to choose the right training provider for your company

Course title: Evaluating Training Providers   
Duration: In-house, according to your requirements and the availability of your people. As a public course, 4 days.

Objectives:

  • Choose the training provider that can deliver the most value
  • Define your training and learning needs
  • Understand the training industry and types of training providers
  • Identify what a capable training provider should be able to give a client
  • Clarify what your company requires from a provider
  • Write a Request for Proposal (RFP)
  • Evaluate training proposals
  • Interview instructors and representatives
  • Conduct in-course assessments and obtain realistic feedback from participants

In-course activities:

  • Practice writing and editing sample documents
  • Practice writing paragraphs and sentences
  • Complete interactive writing tasks, testing clarity and effectiveness
